He has over 20 years of experience in Vascular Surgery, at major centres like the above and has managed a vast variety of patients with Vascular disorders like acute and chronic limb ischaemia, including vascular trauma, Aneurysms like aortic & peripheral, Venous thrombosis like Acute Deep & Superficial Vein Thrombosis, Chronic Venous Insufficiency problems like Primary & secondary varicose veins, Post –thrombotic syndrome, etc and Vascular malformations like arterio-venous( AVM), venous and mixed type malformations, etc.

What is Vascular Surgery?

It is a field of Modern Allopathic system of Medicine that deals with disorders related to the vascular system i.e., disorders of the arterial, venous or lymphatic system.

Arteries

Arteries are specialised blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart and distribute it to various parts of the body.
Common arterial disorders include acute (sudden) and chronic (slow onset and worsening) upper & lower limb ischemia (lack of arterial blood supply) leading pain on exercise, pain at rest and eventually ulceration / gangrene. Abnormal dilatation ( aneurysm) of the arteries leading to their rupture is another not-so-rare disorder seen.

Veins

Veins are blood vessels that carry de-oxygenated blood and waste from various parts of the body back to the heart for purification in the lungs.
Common venous disorders include Chronic Venous insufficiency leading to Varicose veins, pain, swelling, discoloration, eczema and ulceration in the lower legs and feet. Sudden (Acute) clot formation (thrombosis) in the superficial veins ( Superficial Vein Thrombosis – SVT) or Deep veins ( Deep vein thrombosis – DVT) are the other not so rare conditions.

Lymphatic vessels

Lymphatic vessels are specialised vessels that carry protein-rich fluid filtered out of the small blood vessels in the various tissues back to the venous circulation.

Common lymphatic disorders are lymphoedema ( protein rich lymphatic fluid collection in the limbs- either of unknown cause or post-surgery or radiation), Lymphangio-adenitis ( soft tissue painful red swelling – Cellulitis).

Vascular malformations

Vascular malformations (arterial, venous or lymphatic – slow or fast flow malformations, many being a combination) are other disorders which are abnormal growth of blood vessels.

Diabetic foot

Diabetic foot related problems like infections, ulcers and gangrene are other common disorders covered by Vascular Surgeons.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) requiring creation of a vascular access procedure like an arterio- venous fistula – AVF or an arterio-venous graft fistula – AVG, are one of the commonest that are seen and managed by Vascular Surgeons..
